The Dragon’s Flight into the Taurus-Scorpio Axis

'Eternal Spring' by Christina Yen

The Dragon’s Flight into the Taurus-Scorpio Axis

1/18/22 – 7/17/23

Recently, the Moon’s nodes shifted from our last lessons of the Gemini/Sagittarius axis to the lessons of Taurus/Scorpio. The Lunar nodes, in scientific terms, are the points where the orbit of the Moon crosses the ecliptic (which is where eclipses happen). The astrological implications of the lunar nodes are about soul encounters, karmic lessons, the relationship between the outmoded past and the creative future, and the necessary balance between what we’ve already learned and no longer need to focus on (The Dragon's Tail: South Node in Scorpio) and what we must learn now, however uncomfortable and uncharted the territory, for the growth of our souls (The Dragon's Head: North Node in Taurus).

Each of us has our own natal nodes and lessons, which are a significant part of the answer to the age-old questions, ‘Why am I here?’ and ‘What is my soul’s purpose?’ But the positions of the Nodes in transit affect the collective soul’s growth of our entire global community.  So while we are each having our own soul’s intentions directing us one way, those lessons are also being influenced on a global scale by the current position of the Nodes. Those who were born with North Node in Taurus will be having a Nodal Return during this transit, which happens approximately every 18-19 years. At these initiations, the soul work that arises brings us back to re-alignment with our soul’s path and offers us significant growth in our journey.

It helps to better grasp the meaning behind the lunar nodes if you liken it to the digestive process.  The Dragon’s Head (North Node) consumes what the soul needs, and the Dragon’s Tail (South Node) releases what needs to be processed out.  What we take in at the North Node can be nourishing, as long as we practice moderation.  And while we don’t want our habits at the South Node to be like a crutch we become dependent on…we’re not just getting rid of it.  The process is more like composting, so that you can give that South Node knowledge to others in ways that help them grow.  In the center of this process, what we may call the Dragon’s Belly, is the digestion necessary to keep it all moving.  Because when this process becomes blocked (too much consumption at the Head, too much retention at the Tail)…we tend to find ourselves in Soul Crisis.

Where We’ve Been…

Consider the global Soul Crisis we were in for the last couple years, which endured throughout the nodal transit in Gemini/Sagittarius.  There was quicksilver, mutable information flying at us from every direction, especially through the media mainstream. The media was our main source of information during a nodal journey through the signs of communication and belief. We were all consuming it in some way.  It was unavoidable, because even if you shut out the media entirely…the Global ‘Game of Telephone’ was retold to us through almost any encounter with others.  Many of us were soaking in as much information as was made available, in hopes we could find answers.  But ultimately, we were collectively blocked from effective answers (to fundamental questions like ‘what can I do immediately to protect my loved ones?’).  In this block, as information cranked up to 11, truth was withheld by old belief systems with incredible control.  Censorship was the coin of the times…though leaks of independent viewpoints were inevitable.  With the Nodal Dragon blocked up, something’s always gotta give.

Where We Are Now…

In this shift from the air/fire elements of Gemini/Sagittarius to the earth/water elements of Taurus/Scorpio, we move from lessons of information and beliefs to lessons of resources and trust.  Venus and Mars are now guiding the lunar nodes, and what we have…we have to learn how to share.  Issues of trust will come up from South Node lessons in Scorpio, and we will have to learn to let go of our deepest fears (of pain, suffering, loss, and death) so that we can take in new Taurus North Node lessons of stability, pleasure, and growth.  We now have 18 months to learn (or re-learn) how to maintain soul health by digesting the following themes…

New revelations of value that transform our past lessons into fertile soil for growth

Trusting the body to endure through crisis

Sharing the secrets that unburden us to embrace and appreciate life

Building healthy habits and boundaries that make us dependable, not dependent

Taking in more nourishing pleasure for our future, while releasing/composting the pain of the past

Nodal Keywords and Phrases for the Taurus-Scorpio Axis

Nourishment to ingest through the Dragon’s Head (North Node in Taurus):

earthly beauty, physical value, healthy receiving, sensuality, the worthiness of pleasure, gradual unfolding, building, tangible creation, productivity, reliable growth, dependability, security, patience, respect for boundaries, peace simplified

Past knowledge, karma, or shadow material to release and transmute through the Dragon’s Tail (South Node in Scorpio):
old fears of Death, desire to control, manipulative actions, power struggles, intimidation, possessiveness, emotional trauma, internal battles, ‘dark underbelly’ dwelling, destructive urges, boundaries crossed, chaos intensified

Now, I think we all know that the above list of karmic entanglements and shadows of Scorpio are not the essence of this water sign.  They are simply what we need to address now, together, to remove some blockages we’ve accumulated as a Collective.  The essence of Scorpionic fixed water is what this purifying release can become…like the catharsis of diving deep into water and resurfacing, rejuvenated.

What this digestive process gives to our world:  increasing self-worth, deepening intimacy through trust, room to grow, honoring life/death/rebirth cycles, meaningful connection with Mother Earth, artistic production with emotional depth, sensual reception, deep enjoyment, tantric experience, revitalization of life force, body acceptance, appreciation of matter, transformed relationship to money and value

The Personal Journey of the Soul

While we’ll all be feeling into these new lessons now, only some of us were born to hold this frequency on our soul path throughout life.  Many of the rest of us have our nodes in other signs, which is what we’re here to work with and learn throughout our lives.  And yet, when we are connecting with the Collective Soul directive of this time, our individual soul path is supported by working with these Taurus-Scorpio lessons.

To see in what areas of life this shift affects you personally, look to the houses in your natal chart where Taurus and Scorpio are. The last time the nodes were in this axis was between 2003 and 2004. Try to remember what was going on in your life at that time to get an idea of what is to come now, after maturing since then. Astrology follows patterns, and recognizing those patterns can help you to work with the energies when they come around again.
